Vanity Police

May 19, 2013 in Art, Art at Large, conflicted eXXistence blog, Lynsey G

My old and dear friend Tom has recently released his latest post-punk album as Vanity Police. Listening to friends’ music is always a scary thing because you don’t know going into it if you’re going to be forced to smile all strained-like and say, “It’s great!” when you really don’t enjoy it at all. I’ve had that experience a few too many times. It’s even happened with Tom in the past, with another project he was working on for a while. So I was dubious.

But Tom… oh, Tom… he and I have  been kindred spirits for a while now, and after I’d listened to Hey Loser a few times, I was hooked. I’ve actually been listening to it on repeat for a full week. I love it. And not just because I like grungy pseudo-goth dark-rock synth-pop (which I do). Or just because it’s damn good music. But there’s something else that Tom pulls off brilliantly: Alternative maleness, sexuality in the grey area, and raw fucking sex appeal. He told me he’s heard comments to the tune of “this goes against my delicate suburban heterosexuality.” That means he’s doing something really right in my book, friends. Challenging what it is to be male in our culture, yet doing it an undeniably, confidently beautiful way and putting it unapologetically into the public eye. RAWK.

Please please please go check this out and purchase for whatever you want to pay (which includes nothing).

Hot. Hot hot hot. And this is just fucking brilliance.

Can’t wait for the video for “Siren Call” comes out. That song gets me all happy in my loins area.

The Vibrator Song

I am returned from the vacations! I am rejuvenated and relaxed! …and SUPER SWAMPED with backed up work! In the meantime, check it. There is an academic journal for porn now! More thoughts on this, and the inevitable anti-porn feminist backlash, to come.

And there is THIS! Which you need to watch, and sing to yourself, hopefully in public. Adorbs!

BLAM!

Photoshoot Fun!

April 21, 2013 in conflicted eXXistence blog, Modeling Work

Just wrapped up a lil photo shoot sesh of me with my Feminist Porn Award. Because I’m kind of a show-off. (And because the Good For Her people asked for photos of everybody with their awards and I didn’t want to just do a snapshot. Because I’m a show-off.) Pretty psyched about how they’re coming out, y’all! I’ll post ‘em when the edits are done! Because even show-offs don’t want their under-eye bags to show.

Also, a heads-up: I’m working on a pretty intense copyediting gig, and preparing for a long vacation to the American West, so I’ll be lying low on the blog for the next few weeks. However, I’m corresponding with a lot of people about issues for adult companies in the world of payments, “high risk” categories, and more, so keep  your eyes open for more on all that.

Peas and carrots!

SPLOOSH

Also… um… you guys? James Darling did a BIRTHDAY UNICORN GANGBANG IN A BOUNCY CASTLE. He really actually did. You should really go see it. I don’t have words.

KRUTCH interview from Cinekink

April 11, 2013 in Artsy Events, Cinekink, conflicted eXXistence blog, Events, Interviews, Lynsey G

If you travel in any of the circles I do, it’s entirely likely you’ve already heard about KRUTCH, the numerous award-winning short film by Clark Matthews and starring Mia Gimp. The film has been making the festival circuit, promoting a whole new way of thinking about and filming disability smut, and winning at every turn. I can’t show you the film (yet… I’ve heard some distribution rumors!), but I can encourage you to watch the below interview, cut into four parts, that I did with the film’s director and star at Cinekink this year. These two are a powerhouse duo, and their thoughts are the kind that will make you do some thinking, too. (That audio is a bit wonky in parts, but it’s totally worth it.)

Pictures From Toronto

April 9, 2013 in Artsy Events, conflicted eXXistence blog, Events, Lynsey G, Shameless Self-Endorsement

I am a terrible journalist. Really. I never remember to take pictures or notes, and when I do, they are inconsistent and blurry. The notes and the pictures.  I get too drunk at events to do any planning (note: there is no photographic or video evidence of which I’m aware that shows I did, in fact, accept my Feminist Porn Award on stage), and then I am horribly hungover and even worse at taking notes and pictures than I was before. But I do try. Below, I give you: evidence of trying.

Not enough Os, Ms, Gs, or :)s

April 8, 2013 in Art, Art I Made, Artsy Events, conflicted eXXistence blog, Lynsey G, Narcissistic News, Porn News, Shameless Self-Endorsement

Yep. The trophy is a Crystal Minx bunny-tail buttplug.

I guess it’s a good thing I understand that there are not enough Os, Ms, Gs, or :) s in the world to express how overjoyed I am right now, or else this post might just be a repetition of “OMG:)” like a bazillion times. And nobody wants to read that.

Instead, I’m going to attempt to write a short post right now about how totally gobsmacked I am by the fact that this weekend, in Toronto, I was awarded an Honourable Mention (yes, with a “u” because it’s Canada, and that’s fabulous) Feminist Porn Award for my short film “Consent: Society”!!!

Suffice it to say, I did not expect that to happen because “Society” is not a porn film, or a website, or really any of the things that the FPAs are usually given out for. What it is instead is a documentary-style short film I originally created for an art show at apexart here in New York, featuring clips from interviews I did with over twenty people, including porn performers, directors, writers, producers, and critics, as well as porn consumers. These interview clips were arranged according to topic and interspersed with clips from porn films to illustrate points and remind viewers of the subject matter being discussed, thus avoiding the “ivory tower” effect that can happen in the intellectualization of the medium. I submitted the re-edited film “Society” (there were major glitches in the first go-round, as there were in the three other short films, “Morality,” “Reality,” and “Industry”) to the Feminist Porn Awards because I thought it might interest the judges, and because I wanted to give my lil’ art film a chance to get some air outside the art space.

But I sent it in late. I didn’t think it would arrive in time for the deadline. I certainly didn’t expect it to get nominated, and when it was nominated I certainly didn’t expect to win anything. But I did take the nomination as an excuse to go to Toronto for the Awards (the funnest party in porn, IMHO) and the Feminist Porn Conference and to hang out with My People.

So when they called my name on Saturday night… I kind of shat a brick. (Not literally, thank goodness, since I was wearing skin-tight pleather leggings.) I have no idea what I said on that stage, or who announced the award, or what the hell happened.

But I want to take this moment to thank everyone who helped this film happen: Joseph Patrick Conroy for being my go-to video editor, his wife Mariko for opening her house to me for the months of editing Joe and I did right after she had a baby, everyone apexart for giving me a reason to make these films in the first place, my indescribably wonderful partner Jayel Draco for helping me re-edit, Jenelle Campion for helping me with filming in San Francisco, Lolly Gagger for interviewing me for the video… And all the people I interviewed!! April Flores, Madison Young, Sinnamon Love, Danny Wylde, Cindy Gallop, Kelly Shibari, Oriana Small, Nyomi Banxxx, Lux Alptraum, Brittany Andrews, Dan Reilly, Mr. Marcus, Natasha Starr, Lolly Gagger, Anton, Paige, Albert, Michelle, and my two “Anonymous”-es! Thank you for opening up your brains and hearts to me to discuss your relationships with, and thoughts on, pornography. This shit is important, and the people at Good For Her, who give out these awards, think so, too!

Congratulations on all the other winners, especially to Carlos Batts, April Flores, Jiz Lee, Courtney Trouble, and Sophie Delancey! Snuggles to you all!

I’ll have more in the next few days, including pictures, thoughts on the Awards and the Convention, etc.

In the meantime, you can view “Society” and the other three videos, all in their first incarnations (which is to say, a little glitchy), here. If you would like a DVD of “Society,” please let me know (@misslagsalot, Facebook.com/LynseyLagsalot, or misslagsalot @ gmail). I don’t have a solid distribution model set up, but I’m more than happy to send you one for a nominal fee to cover shipping. I really want these videos to get out there in the world. They’re important!

AND: if you were at the FPAs on Saturday night and picked up one of my “TALK. ABOUT. PORN.” stickers, please stick it someplace awesome and send me a photo!

Fashion Meltdown

April 1, 2013 in Artsy Events, conflicted eXXistence blog, Events, Lynsey G, Narcissistic News

What does one wear to the Feminist Porn Awards?

The simple answer, clearly, is whatever the hell one wants.

However, I find that the simple answer presupposes a level of understanding of and/or comfort with fashion. Which I do not really possess. I can put together outfits that look ok, but as far as projecting my preferred version of myself via the clothing adorning my body and thus communicating my sense of style… I’ve never been very good at that. I like to be comfortable

I need help. If you had to choose from the following, which would you recommend?

1) A Bowie-Esque light blue suit

2) A black-and-white stripe theme, possibly with a corset involved?

3) A sparkly, short sweater dress

4) Jeans and comfy top?

Please help. I am not fashionable enough for the FPAs.

Bewbs and Stickers FTW

March 27, 2013 in Art, Art at Large, conflicted eXXistence blog, Lynsey G, Public Porn

Y’all, the awesome photos keep coming! Check out this shot of Poppy Cox’s bewwwbs hovering over one the stickers from my show!

This should keep happening. I want to see all the SFW photos you can send me of what you did with your “Talk. About. Porn” stickers! Send ‘em!

I mean SFW as in no nudity or sex, but everything else is fair game!

Also, I’m thinking I’ll take my leftovers with me to Toronto, hand ‘em out to everyone at the Feminist Porn Awards, and take photos of all the fun that happens.

Stay tuned!
