Chapters 5 & 6 of “Watching Porn” (Live Video Readings)

Yeesh, that Kickstarter really kicked my butt. I didn’t post the video of “Chapter 5: The Backward Slide” from my book, Watching Porn, because I was so busy promoting the crowdfunding campaign to fund my other book, Tracy Queen!

So this weekend, I’m treating you to not one but two videos of yours truly reading selections from Watching Porn! I did these readings live on Facebook, then uploaded them to YouTube for the world to see. I do a live chapter reading every other weekend to give the world a chance to understand the porn industry a bit better and ask any questions they’ve got after the fact.

In Chapter 5, I tackled the “women don’t watch porn” stereotype, adult entertainment as de facto sex education, and the problem with trying to police people’s fantasies. I also talked about my own complicated relationship with porn, and why I decided to stick with reviewing DVDs for money way back in 2008. Oh, and there’s a few minutes of me awkwardly fumbling with my phone, during which you can totally see that I am wearing granny sweatpants under my carefully manicured makeup and nice top. So that’s fun.

Two weeks later, I read “Chapter 6: WHACK! Magazine,” where I cover how the magazine I ran for three years came to be, how getting into porn is pretty easy, and how most people who do so are…actually pretty normal.

In both chapters, I quote interviews I’ve conducted or read, books I’ve studied, and resources I referenced in writing the book. If you’re interested in learning more about any of those, here are links!
