I’m huge in Israel.

The holidays are officially under way, and I’m frantically typing away in a desperate attempt to meet my deadlines before the year ends! Meanwhile, a few things I did months ago are coming full circle. Check these articles on (consensual) porn in Turkey, revenge porn in the U.S. (with a French guy), and Watching Porn in Israel!

Turkey

First, let’s take a trip to Turkey, where I investigated the still-technically-legal but blocked consumption of pornography in a country that’s getting more conservative. A nibble:
“Overall, Turkey is relatively progressive, given the social leanings of its neighbors. For instance: It legalized homosexual activity in 1858; it gave women full political rights, including the right to be elected for office, in the 1930s; and it’s allowed trans people to legally change their gender since 1988.”

Revenge Porn

Next, we’ll talk with a Parisian named Lionel Hagege about how his new company, FacePinPoint, hopes to end revenge porn in the United States using facial recognition software for good instead of evil. A morsel:
“I’m not judging anyone. I believe that you can do whatever you want with your body, within legal limits. At FacePinPoint, we say, “What’s private should remain private.” We’re not blaming. We’re here to shield you.”

Israel

And then we’ll visit Israel, where Ruta Kupfer at The Marker published an interview we did a while back about my book, Watching Porn! (Pro tip: It’s written in Hebrew, so I recommend viewing in Chrome for the auto-translate…which is kind of fun.) A tidbit:
“Pornography is the veneer of Western society, it is the distorted mirror that reflects our sexual desires and animal impulses at the same time. If you enter the…xHamster landing page on any given day, you will see popular films that reflect the tastes of millions around the world that day.”
