This image (via Photobucket) is only tangentially related to the article. I mean. Education. Teachers. Mentorship. It kinda fits, right?

You know, these are kind of dark times we’re living in. But it’s not ALL bad, folks! The election may have set us back fifty years in some ways, but in others, it moved us forward! Take, for example, the sweeping wins for medical and recreational marijuana across the country. We may have a tough road ahead of us, but we can take some green medicine along for the ride! And more to the point of this little blog, the good voters of California voted down Prop 60! With that gross piece of government overreach defeated, the porn industry is looking forward to a bright future! And that sunny reality got me wondering: Now that the porno ship has been righted, who’s steering it? Is anyone providing guidance and mentorship for newbies in the skin biz?

I asked these questions to a group of talented, generous individuals in the porn biz. Was anyone helping the youth navigate the uncharted waters of porn in the twenty-first century? With social media, virtual reality, feminism, genderfuckery, and more going on all over the place, could newbies keep their heads above water? The answer I got from pornographers around the world was a resounding YES. Turns out that, from performers to filmmakers to businesspeople, the adult entertainment industry is practically teeming with helpful veterans eager to share their wisdom with the next generation. Jiz Lee, Nina Hartley, Mickey Mod, Madison Young, Julia Ann, Danica Dane, Ela Darling, and Ms. Naughty all weighed in, and the result was this lovely article at MEL Magazine!

A nibble:

Mentors…provide feedback on industry-specific quandaries, like whether to do anal on camera, which performers are good scene partners, and what companies treat their talent with respect. “I want young men and women to succeed in a scary and hostile environment (e.g., being overtly sexual in a Puritanical world),” [Nina] Hartley said over email. “I tell them, ‘You’ll make your own mistakes; you shouldn’t have to make mine.’”
