Video of “Chapter 7: The Conflicted Existence of the Female Porn Writer”

On December 9, I read “Chapter 7: The Conflicted Existence of the Female Porn Writer” live on Facebook! It’s a chapter from my book, Watching Porn. And as of December 9, I was still allowed to stream myself reading about adult entertainment. Or at least my experience of it as I wrote about it as a columnist for McSweeney’s, and coming out to my parenst about it. We’ll see how long that lasts.

You should probably watch the video now to find out why I’m so concerned that I may not be able to continue. The short version is that the internet is becoming less safe for adult content every day. Tomorrow, December 17, Tumblr will officially ban all adult content. (Incidentally, December 17 is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. The irony is thick in 2018, folks. Because it’s a lot easier to do violence against marginalized groups when they’re not allowed to speak up for themselves online.) Facebook has changed their TOS to prohibit all sex talk. Who knows how long I’ll be able to post these videos on YouTube. It’s scary. I talk about it at length in the video below.

So hey! Go watch all the videos on Faceook or YouTube now before it’s too late! Or just watch Chapter 7 below! In it, I tell the story of me coming out to my parents as a porn writer. It went…okay…?

If all goes well, I’ll be back on Sunday, December 23 to read “Chapter 8: In the Flesh.” That day, I’ll tell the tale of my first-ever adult industry convention, the crushes I developed, and how impressed I was by the women I met there. Join me live at my Facebook page to hear the chapter and join the live Q&A! See you then!
