I wrote about AVN’s recent decision to do away with the “BBW Performer of the Year” award for Glamour! It was a shock when I heard it announced earlier this month. I remember when the award was announced for the first time back in 2013, and how excited everyone was. So its sudden removal from the AVN Awards felt like a betrayal—and many BBW performers and fans reacted as if it were. It felt important to get to the bottom of the issue.
So I spoke to performers, and to AVN, to get my mind around what happened. Was it anti-fat discrimination? Was it just business? Can the BBW Performer of the Year award come back? How? And how do AVN awards work, anyway?
