Let’s talk about starting your novel, shall we? I don’t mean finding inspiration—you’ve already got that. Look, you have all these ideas, characters, plot points, and plans swirling around in your brain. Maybe you’ve scribbled notes all over everything in your office, or amalgamated a bunch of outlines and documents on your device. But the prospect of sitting down with all of these moving parts and putting them into working order? That can be overwhelming. What to do? Where to start?
I’ve got years of experience as a writer, editor, and publisher backing me up when I say: I can help. Right now, I’m putting together an eight-week organizational workshop to do just that! Together with a small and supportive group of others who are at similar stages in their novel development, you and I will start getting your inspiration out of your head and into the world!
What Is the Workshop?
My eight-week organizational workshop will meet once weekly on voice chat from June 4 through July 23. Each week, we’ll spend an hour and a half talking about where we’re at, what we’ve accomplished, where we’re having trouble, and what we’re going to do next.
I’ll lead group discussion and brainstorming sessions, give guidance on direction and development, offer insider information from the publishing industry, and lead everyone through a series of lectures, exercises, worksheets, and brainstorms that will help you develop your thoughts into useful, working parts of a successful novel. We’ll dig into your character development, story arc(s), research, writing goals, audience expectations, and even your publishing options.
Between calls, I’ll send you worksheets to help you move from thinking into acting, and back them up with helpful e-mails full of inspiration, information, and resources. And you’ll have access to an private chat group with other workshop members, so you can share feedback, insights, and ideas with other writers.
Who’s This Workshop For?
This workshop is best for beginner- to intermediate-level writers who have an idea for a book-length fictional story, but who haven’t gotten far into the actual writing process. If you have more brilliance than you do experience with putting a novel together, this workshop will be useful for you! It is particularly well suited to genre fiction writers, but any type of novel is welcome! (Variety is the spice of a workshop, as they say.)
You’ll also need to have an hour and a half every Tuesday evening from June 4 till July 23! Our group will meet from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. Mountain Time (that’s 8:00 – 9:30 Eastern, 5:00 – 6:30 Pacific) for eight weeks in a row.
Let’s Talk Brass Tacks
I want to hear from you about your project before you commit to the workshop! I’m curating the group as well as the course content to make sure that the personalities, projects, and subject matter discussed will work for everyone. So, if you’re interested in hearing more, please check out my writing coaching page, where you can fill out a contact form about your project. You’ll hear back from me in 24 hours…and we’ll start working on your novel together!
Here’s What Past Workshop Members Are Saying…
