Last Sunday, I once again live-streamed myself reading from Watching Porn: And Other Confessions of an Adult Entertainment Journalist! This time around, I read selections from “Chapter 1: Before Porn.” This chapter tells a bit about yours truly and where I was coming from when I started writing about adult entertainment. It also contains a quick and dirty history of pornography!
Fair warning: I also spent a bunch of time talking about my new comic book, PACK #1: Humility! Aaaand talking about how much I want to be your writing coach. More on that below. But for now, here’s the YouTube video! (You can also watch it on Facebook!)
Join me again Sunday, September 30 for the next live reading! This time I’ll be reading Chapter 2: Getting In, which will tell the tale of my job interview at a porno mag. I may also tell the embarrassing story of getting locked in the emergency stairwell on my way to that interview…maybe.
Till then, enjoy the video of Chapter 1! And check out these links to people and ideas and art that made appearances during the reading:
- In Chapter 1, I quoted Shira Tarrant’s book, The Pornography Industry!
- I also mentioned the panel discussion about feminism in porn that happened at my book launch party at the Strand bookstore in New York City! It featured yours truly, as well as Cindy Gallop, Sinnamon Love, Mahx Capacity, and Lisa Vandever!
- And the panel I did later with Kayden Kross, April Flores, and Mike Stabile at Book Soup in Los Angeles!
- Oh, hey, like that art in the background? The Art Nouveau pieces are both by Jayel Draco! The gorgeous goddess abstract painting is by Jenelle Leigh Campion. And the SIGNED photo of Tim Curry in Rocky Horror is mine and you’ll never get to touch it EVER. Bwahahaha!

A Word About Writing Coaching
In the video, I talked quite about writing coaching. I want to tell you more here, because I’m really excited about it!
Look, your writing project is your darling baby. Whether it’s a concept for a blog, an article, a sci-fi short story, a memoir, a fantasy epic, a literary novel, a self-help book, or anything else…it’s a part of you that the world needs to know about. I want to help you turn it from a great idea into a beautiful, effective, finished, polished project that you can proudly share with the world. I’ll be your accountability buddy, your cheerleader, your listening ear, and your experienced, professional resource for all things writing and publishing. I want to coach you through the process of honing your writing voice, organizing your thoughts into an outline or proposal, setting your writing and editing schedule, honing your craft, and turning your project into its very best self.
I have experience as a writer, editor, proofreader, and publisher in nearly all the different facets of the publishing industry, from poetry to fiction to journalism to memoir. I’ve run my own online magazine, written for many others (and print magazines, too), edited dozens of books across all genres, and written my own memoir (and short stories, and comics, and a graphic novel, and I’m working on a novel, too). I’ve worked for a university press, several print magazines, and the largest publishing company in the world, and I’ve done freelance editorial work for most of the Big 5 trade publishing houses.
Now, I want to share my expertise with you! I’m currently accepting clients for the fall of 2018. I’ve got just a few spots available for one-on-one coaching programs from October through December, and I want you to fill one of them! Hit me up at misslagsalot[at]gmail[dot]com to tell me about what you’re working on, and we’ll take it from there!
