You guys! Oh my golly! I’m over the moon to tell you the big news. As you may know, I started a publishing company about a year ago with my partner, Jayel Draco. We called it Oneshi Press (“Oneshi” is a word we invented that means a two-spirit intersex person in the language of a society we’re creating), and we started it for two reasons: 1) We were working on several projects that we wanted to put out into the world, and 2) We want to eventually bring other people’s stories to the world, also. We’ve been hard at work writing, editing, and making tons of art for a number of illustrated books, graphic novels, and comics, and now the first book is ready!
It’s a fantasy art novel that tells some of the back story for the larger fantasy narrative Children of Gaia, which I’m helping Jayel and a team of other creatives build. It’s told from the perspective of a character within the story, and it’s full of gorgeous art that Jayel spent three years creating. The Great Nations of Rendaraia was written and illustrated by Jayel, and edited like cuh-razy by me! I’m so proud of it, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you! The world is so richly imagined and lavishly reproduced, it warms my geeky heart to the core.
Purchase
Right now, the book is only available for purchase directly through the Oneshi Press website! You can place an order directly with us for a signed trade paperback, or a signed, numbered, limited-edition hardcover (we only printed 50, and there are only 35 left already). We’ll ship it off to you with some extra goodies included, and Jayel is happy to sign it according to your wishes! Oh, and if you subscribe to our Patreon campaign first, you can take a discount on your book equal to the amount of your monthly pledge!
Preorder
If you don’t want to spring for the signed version and all that Patreon stuff, don’t worry! You can also preorder an unsigned trade paperback from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, Powell’s, or Book Depository. It will be released and shipped on May 1! Whatever your preference, order now, and then review it on Amazon or Goodreads to help spread the word!
Party
To celebrate the completion of this massive undertaking, we’re having a book launch party that doubles as an art show on May 5 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in downtown Missoula, Montana! Jayel will be selling and signing books and prints of Children of Gaia artwork. There will be original sculpture and costume design from the Children of Gaia universe on display, and toward the end of the evening, Jayel will unveil a brand-new animated video in which artist John Kazanjian will read the introduction to the book to a score written and performed by musician Jack Schell. Oh, and there will be snacks and booze! If you’re in Missoula, stop by to say hello! And if you’re not, we’re planning to live-stream the event on Jayel’s Twitch channel, so you can still be a part of the shindig!
